Art & Soul Retreat at Virginia Beach

I will be teaching at the Virgina Beach Art and Soul Retreat 9/29 - 10/1/14. The venue is at the Virginia Beach Resort Hotel, it's charming and comfortable..and on the BAY!! I would love to have you join me; here are my classes:

Using hammers and simple tools, students will transform copper sheet metal into big, bold, beautiful, wearable works of art. Students will explore basic metal working techniques including forging, texturing, and cold connecting while fabricating 2 funky and organic copper cuffs. Patina applications will also be covered.

VA152 - Fold Forming 101

Charles Lewton-Brain developed fold forming; a series of metal folding techniques which allow rapid development of three dimensional surfaces using simple equipment. If rapid and simple have a place in your jewelry making repertoire, then this class is right up your alley! Techniques covered include; line folds, applied textures, cold connections and patina applications. Students will create 2 funky and organic copper cuffs. Ear protection is recommended as there will be a lot of hammering.

VA153 - Rosette Cuff & Bangle

Heavy-gauge wire can act like wire or sheet metal, allowing exploration a variety of basic metalsmithing techniques such as forging, texturing, wire working, and cold connecting. In this project, sculpted swirls of wire form a smooth rosette, becoming the centerpiece of a copper bangle that can be worn on its own, or riveted to a textured copper cuff. Whether your design aesthetic runs toward the delicate bangle or the heavier cuff, this bracelet has you covered!

VA155 - Eye of the Storm

Learn to create “sheet metal” from wire and open up a whole new world of design possibilities! Students will incorporate this unique wire working technique to create a funky and organic cuff with a stunning turquoise focal. Several rings will also be created as time allows.

VA157 - The Margarita Cuff
