YOJ #39 - The "Atlantis" Series

So I was experimenting with patina applications on copper and found that fuming with ammonia and adding a dab of hydrogen peroxide creates the loveliest deep sea blues and greens. What do you think?

  1. I think that's lovely Eva! When you say add a dab of peroxide, do you mean mixed in with the ammonia?

    1. Thanks so much AliMc! I fumed the pieces in ammonia for about 3 days, then took them out and while they were still damp, dabbed them with a brush dipped in straight hydrogen peroxide. At first it turned black, but as it dried, some lovely greens appeared in the blues. I also sprayed the pieces with an acrylic enamel to seal them and add a glossy finish. Try playing with a few scrap pieces and see what happens! :-)

PS: Sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad, my sympathies,

  2. I love the look of the patina, Eva! The colors are beautiful. Fuming with ammonia is on my list of things to try. I'll have to add some peroxide.
