My skills are at the point where free materials & a tiny bit of publicity would be a very reasonable compensation. But I plan to improve, and would love to see reasonable mechanisms in place.KipperCathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12011060884920219554noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-298951407680426082.post-2927014496732758272011-09-13T16:42:33.949-04:002011-09-13T16:42:33.949-04:00Thanks for your comments! I think having an open and honest discussion on the idea is helpful, perhaps when tempers cool a bit....
:-)
evaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-298951407680426082.post-61320752262430656412011-09-12T22:02:46.714-04:002011-09-12T22:02:46.714-04:00I took part in this debate. At first my problem with the Craft Test Dummies facebook debate was with the calling out specific SMALL manufacturers without first informing them so they could defend themselves- I think this lacked ethics. Miss CFT is a CHA member. She knows which manufacturers make exploitive calls and which don't- why not point out some big guns?
Then I thought- isn't this work voluntary? You have to apply- if you don't like the terms- don't apply. I have passed up 8 applications this year because I felt the terms were exploitive. I am a beginner so I don't have the cadre of crafty friends pulling for me, the reputation or even the polish needed in my work to be selected for major manufacturer's design teams. As I later learned- many of those manufacturers already know who they want on their teams and choose only proven designers so applications demanding "new projects" or projects using "80% our product" are really just a call for free marketing. So I stepped out and. I craft for product at 2 small online crafty shops and 2 scrapbook challenge blogs and I am proud to do so. I make NO APOLOGIES since I knew exactly what I was getting into when I did so- it was all clearly spelled in the application.Michelle Hernandezhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03679879157645074185noreply@blogger.com
